popcorn v1.6.0 - documentation


Welcome to the popcorn wordpress theme documentation, by mytubepress.com. Use the menu to left side to navigate quickly through the documentation.

If you're having an issue with the theme and can't find the answer here, then please send us an email or feel free to post your question through our support forums: http://mytubepress.com/forums and we will try to answer you as quick as possible.

Please read the documentation carefully before sending a support request. The chance you could find the answer here is big and would save you a lot of time!


Extract the zipped package downloaded from customer account page to your desktop, in the extracted package you will find popcorn folder which is the wordpress theme.

You can install the theme in two different ways:

  • FTP Extract popcorn.zip file and upload the extracted folder to /wp-content/themes/ folder on your server.

  • WordPress Navigate to Apperance -> Add New Themes -> Upload page. Select popcorn.zip file. Press the Install Now button to upload and install the theme.

After uploading the theme, you have to activate it. Navigate to Appearence -> Themes page to activate the theme.


Popcorn supports 5 locations for custom WordPress menus - (Primary )Main navigation, (Secondary) Footer Menu,
Top Right Menu, Sidebar Categories Menu and Mobile Links

To setup the menus, navigate to Apperance -> Menus page. Enter a name for your menu and add links to the menu by using the options given on the left sidebar. You can manage your menus using the drag and drop functionality. After setting up your menu, select the menu you just created from the theme locations dropdown box and hit the "Save" button.

Install Required Plugins

Popcorn has 3 required plugins.

  • Advanced Custom Fields Adds custom fields to the video custom post type.

  • Advanced Custom Fields: Gallery FieldGallery for ACF, included in popcorn/inc/tools/addon folder

  • Video Embed & Thumbnail GeneratorThis plugin is used for the video player via video-js.

Once you activate popcorn you will get a notification, click the "Begin Installing Plugins" and install and activate all the required plugins.

Setup Buddypress

  • Step 1 Install and activate buddypress plugin.

  • Step 2 Go to Settings -> Buddypress section

  • Step 3 Enable/disable features from the buddypress settings page.

Setup Widgets

Go to Appearance > Widgets, we have created some sidebars to manage and show your widgets on specific pages like buddypress template, single page etc.

  • How to put a widget on a sidebar

    • Find the widget and drag it to the sidebar area.

Custom Templates

Go to Dasboard > Pages to create or assign a custom template, we have created some custom templates for specific pages performer list or categories page.

  • Categories Template

    • Click on Add new write a page title than choose categories template (view image).

  • Performer List

    • Click on Add new write a page title than choose performer list attribute (view image).

Taxonomy thumbnails

With popcorn you can either add an image for each taxonomy item like channel, category and performer (Will be resized by aq_resizer(Aqua Resizer) function).


  • [upload] display the submit video form, allow the user submit the video at Frontend.

    You can also include/exclude the category in the form by cat_exclude, cat_include option.
    Example [upload cat_exclude="1,2"], 1,2 is Video Category ID.

    The cat_include option will ignore cat_exclude.

    Another options:
    • vcategory: on/off: display/hide the Category field, "on" is default.
    • vtag: on/off: display/hide the Tag field, "on" is default
    • cat_orderby: order by "name" by default.
    • cat_order: order "DESC" by default.
